You do not need to learn the tarot because you already know it. It is from this radical jumping off point that WTF Is Tarot breaks down the ancient art of cartomancy. This fresh, accessible and sometimes cheeky guide sheds a holistic light on how the fuck to read tarot, from the foundation of magic itself to understanding those tricky court cards to offering readings to others.

In WTF Is Tarot, author and tarot reader Bakara Wintner unpacks the magic of the Major and Minor Aracana with shamanic wisdom and girl boss wit, illuminating their meaning with thoughtful anecdotes and analogies that reveal how deeply rooted these symbols already are in our everyday lives: we can feel the Moon in a howling barefoot run through Prospect Park, accept the grace of Temperance in falling in love or a divine intervention, “ghost the haters” with the Six of Swords, or identify a fuckboy in the Son of Wands.

WTF is Tarot offers far more than a refreshingly candid tutorial on card reading. Bakara goes on to investigate the magic of crystal healing, chakras, meditation, and other magical practices. This young witch offers not just a guide, but an invitation for even the most mundane Muggles to welcome magic into their lives, and for experienced wizards to rediscover it once again.

Awesome resource

This was not my first tarot book, but has been a book I relied on heavily in deepening my understanding of the tarot. Really great and easily understood explanations of the meanings of the cards, but in a way that also still conveys their depth. There is a helpful breakdown of the Court cards as well, and I really enjoy the extra content towards the end about the practice and spreads! Lastly, Bakara is really great at writing as if she's having a conversation with you, not that reference book tone I often find in metaphysical resource books. Maybe that's not the most important detail, but that tone really helped me breeze through the book and understand the message as if my best friend were explaining the tarot to me over drinks. I absolutely recommend this to any tarot newbies I meet :)

My go-to reference

WTF is Tarot was my intro to understanding tarot. I've read other tarot references since and none are as easily accessible to my millenial brain as this one. Bakara brings the ancient human archetypes to life in a way that is easily applicable to our current experiences in this new millenium. She is a gifted storyteller so the anecdotal stories attached to each archetype are not only helpful in understanding tarot, but are also captivating glimpses into a life I'd love to read a full book on.
You should buy this book.

Wonderful!🖤👁‍🗨🔮

I don't know what to say, except I love this book! At once practical and spiritual, its grounded and casual style makes the intuitive, wiggly bits surrounding tarot feel more relatable and relevant. The anecdotes and metaphors bring new dimensions to the cards that you won't find in a google search. Each card feels like a familiar friend being introduced in a new way. This book is a tool I reach for over and over again, can't recommend enough!
