Named after the great philosopher and scientist, Plato, the platonic solids are actually the product of even more ancient humans. Over 12,000 years ago, neolithic humans were contemplating the workings of the universe and made individual carved totems representing the forces they felt all around them, like the air, water, earth, and fire. As time has moved on, the theory around these shapes has expand and shifted to be the fundamental basis for how we define our material world. We find now with modern technology that the platonic solids exist on a molecular level, creating viruses, weather patterns and atomic structures and they appear throughout nature, both in living and dead things. They are the reason why dirt crumbles as opposed to melts out of your hand like water.
“Everything is written in this grand book, the universe, which stands continually open to our gaze. But the book cannot be understood unless one first learns to comprehend the language and read the letters in which it is composed. It is written in the language of mathematics, and its characters are triangles, circles and other geometric figures without which it is humanly impossible to understand a single word of it; without these, one wanders about in a dark labyrinth.” - Galileo Galilei
