An excellent copy of the extremely rare 1987 The New York Tarot. It is self-published and comes in a white corrugated cardboard box.

This is a photographic deck done in black and white. The structure is a little different from the standard Tarot deck because of the inclusion of a card for each of the zodiac signs and an additional court card for each suit bringing the total card count to 94. The Major Arcana have traditional names with the exception of V - Psychopomp, VII - Transport, and XXI - Resurrection Day. The Suits are Wands, Cups, Pentacles and Swords. The Court consists of Child, Knight, Dame, King and Queen.

The scenes are from the streets of N.Y.C. Many of the scenes are original, though some rely on the Waite-Smith imagery. The architecture and people of New York City yielded some really imaginative scenes. The Ace of Pentacles is a beautiful manhole cover with a star in the center, courtesy of the Bureau of Sewers, Borough of Manhattan. The Four of Swords is a sidewalk tile mosaic. The World is the Unisphere - a remnant of the 1965 World's Fair. Transport (The Chariot), is a subway car - what else could it have been. The Empress is the Statue of Liberty. The backs show an apartment building with fire escapes.

There is no little booklet with this deck, rather four cards are provided which contain the artist credits and short upright interpretations. No interpretations are provided for the Zodiac cards, only the phrase "you decide." Instructions for the Celtic Cross spread are also included. The deck is packaged in a corrugated cardboard box.
